It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on my blog. Honestly there’s just been a lot going on since the miscarriage and I couldn’t find the motivation to create blog posts like I used to.

So this is a change in mindset – This blog will just entirely be a record of my day-to-day thoughts. What I’ve been working on, what I’m thinking about and anything else that goes through my head.

A big change since my last blog post is that my wife and I have decided to commit to our very own home! It was a quick decision that we had to make, but when an opportunity presents itself out of nowhere, sometimes you have to make grab that opportunity while it’s there.

Since the house will be order-made, we get to decide everything about the house, which is super exciting! We’ve brainstormed our must-haves and overall structure of the house and we’re currently waiting for our house maker to come up with an initial design of the overall layout of the house.

A lot more discussion is awaiting and I’m excited for the entire process because owning my own home in a more suburban area (outside of Tokyo) was always a dream of mine.

But when I cracked down the numbers for this new life, I learned that my current financials are pretty tight for the type of lifestyle I was hoping for. Obviously the biggest factor, the price of the house, has yet to be finalized, but I’ve been starting to look for ways to 1) increase my income and 2) save as much as possible every month.

Obviously buying your own home comes with a lot of fixed costs, not to mention all of the one-time costs like moving costs, buying new furniture etc.

But while talking to my brother about my financials heading into this new lifestyle, he said, “When you’re looking to improve your lifestyle, your financials are bound to struggle and that’s normal”. This took away a lot of anxiety I was feeling, mainly due to feeling like I was failing because my financials were quite tight for this new lifestyle.

Instead, I’ve swtiched my focus on how I can change my financials to achieve this new lifestyle sustainably, which has allowed me to take my first step into freelancing. Although I have yet to land my first job, I’ve been applying to multiple jobs so I can start earning a secondary income.

I know the extra hours of work I will have to put in will be tough, but at the same time I think this is a great opportunity for me to experience freelancing. Who knows, eventually I may start to make a lot more doing freelancing that my current 9-5 job, right?

I’m getting pretty busy at work as well, but it’s been a long time since my job has become a lower priority item on my list, so I’m not too worried about that. What i get done within my hours gets done, if not so be it. It’s not the end of the world.

So recently my mind has been mostly: new home, desiging the home, future financials, freelancing. Mostly about the future, which is exciting! It’s good to have this new source of motivation, especially since I was very low on energy and motivation after the miscarriage.

I can already tell this is a huge turning point in my life, and I’m grateful that I’m getting this opportunity to change up my lifestyle at an young age. I’m ready to take on the challenge and I’ll keep this blog updated with my progress.
